iPhone 5 upgrade or new contract?

Saw new contract for £33 and free handset on CPW but when I call Vodafone to upgrade an ended contract it's £33 and £149 for the handset.

I asked the Vodafone rep why £149 and got some waffle about how CPW can do it for free but he can't.

Is this for real?

Compare contract lengths and what calls / data / extra's are included. Pricing is normally very similar but you may just have found a good deal.

Yes, it's 'for real'.

Places such as this: http://www.mobiles.co.uk/ can usually better most network upgrade deals. There's a chance you can get a brilliant deal from the networks but it depends on how much they value you and how lucky you are.

Long gone are the days of good upgrade retention deals. New customers/contracts pretty much always get the better deal.

Agreed. For a long time now I have always skipped at the end of a contract and taken a new one out rather than stay.
