*** iPhone 5S/5C - September 10th ***

I really like the design and finish of the 5C. But I won't get it because it won't have the performance of the 5S. I would prefer the internals of the 5S with the design of the 5C - It looks a little more hard wearing than the 5S...

I hope that they just double the storage sizes of the 5S so that it would be 32/64/128. 16gb just isn't enough since 1080p video and even though a 16gb iphone is comparable in cost to the latest Samsung galaxy etc, opting for a higher GB puts it way above. Yes, I have an SD card in my S3 but I aren't really bothered about having a removable card, I just want a decent amount of storage.

I like the look of the 5C but I think they will gimp it in some way by removing a fairly important feature. I can see them making the 5C 8gb and only 8gb and the 5S 32/64/128gb. I just can't see them releasing 2 phones that are the same apart from the casing and the price. It would be like releasing an ipod touch that could make phonecalls. Far too many people would take the cheaper option for what difference there would be. They will gimp it.

The 5C will probably be identical to an iPhone 5 internally - keeps costs down as they can just keep on making it and selling it as their cheaper phone while retiring the 4/4S they're still selling - which obviously use different parts, different size screen etc. The chassis being plastic or whatever it is will be cheaper than the glass/metal of the regular 5 so that saves them money. I doubt they'll offer 128GB just because a) streaming/iCloud/iTunes Match b) £££

This.

I have a 4S and was totally underwhelmed by the 5, seeing no point in upgrading so I doubt I'll see any real reason to fork out for the 5S either. I don't want a larger phone or larger screen and actually prefer the design of the 4S so I think I'll be staying on SIM only and saving a packet and instead upgrading my iPad a little later in the year :)

Yeah. Totally agree. I'll be keeping my 4S. Thinking about getting an LTE iPad Mini if they do come with retina as an upgrade.

I had a word with Orange/EE about this though... and it seems unless I upgrade my handset to a 4G phone, I can't have a 4G data plan for the iPad, if I want them on the same plan that is. Seems a bit bonkers but that's the way it is. My contract isn't due for renewal until December anyway so I'm waiting to see what comes out in the wash.

could use a lower binned version of the same SoC clocked slightly lower. Same with the screen, not as highly calibrated/ meet specs.

If it was the same phone but with a cheaper casing, how much do you think that would save apple per unit? and how much of that saving would be passed to customers? £20?

If it doesn't have a larger screen think I will skip this gen, have everyone since the 3gs but the jump from 4 to 4s I didn't see any real difference.

Any guesses to the 5S 16GB (or 32GB, whatever the lowest available capacity is) off contract price? I'm thinking north of £500.

Ill be selling my S4 and returning to apple. Don't get me wrong the S4 is a lovely phone but I have just got my mits on a MacBook Pro. Having a iPad too I just want to complete the set :D

We've already seen most of the components. It's externally exactly the same as an iPhone 5 bar the dual LED flash on the back.

I just wish that they would make 2 different sizes. If it's worth doing for the ipad, it's worth it for a phone. A device that most people have. Surely everyone is happy then? Although if they did this, I suspect that many of the people who swear by the iphone size would opt for the bigger model.

Got a 4S serving me well at the moment, but will keep an eye on this. Bit worrying the amount of people already decided on what to get when it hasn't been revealed yet :p

I've had my 4S for nearly 2 years and I'm due an upgrade soon :p There are times when my phone does lag on app switching (Facebook I'm looking at you!) which is primarily down to the lack of memory. The 5 is definitely smoother compared to mine, and the 5S will typically be a lot faster again.
