iPhone 5S screen lifting

Had a chat with Apple online live chat, arranged a call back tomorrow morning. I have the option of them delivering a replacement phone and I return this one, rather than having to go to the Apple store.

It's next day delivery usually. The option is called "express replacement", and the way it works is like this:

  • Your new phone is delivered next day by UPS
  • The UPS man will present you with a replacement phone (sealed) and a plain box
  • You put your faulty phone in the plain box and hand it back (no accessories, just the handset!)
  • UPS man scurries away with your faulty phone (no return cost to you)
  • Apple checks the phone and unless there is foul play, you're good

It's worth noting that Apple also offer a replacement scheme, which involves you sending the phone to them for testing BEFORE they send out the new handset. Personally, I've always done the express replacement because I'm impatient.

The big drawback with the express replacement is the temporary card charge they place (the amount of an equivalent handset). Essentially, this is to stop you running off with 2 iPhones. It's almost always returned within 7-10 days though, which is understandable :)

Phonecall from Apple CS today, they were unable to setup the express replacement as the service to book them has been down two days. Arranged another call back tomorrow.

It was explained to me that they send out a replacement phone plus a box to return original phone (pre paid) and you have up to 10 working days to do so. If it's not returned within that time, then you're charged for the replacement phone as they first require a credit card number before starting the process. Pretty much just as you said EVH :) not that I doubted you mate! Oh he did also mention, if the phone shows any sign of drop damage or water damage then you could also be charged.
