iPhone 6+ bendgate issue.

We also have business account with Apple, but that does not mean anything in the Westfield store in White City. It is possibly the worst for Customer Support/Care and they're rude and sarcastic.

They are distributed out to sales, power users and developers so they are handled more than Joe bloggs with his in a case. They aren't however manhandled in anyway (we've not had any issues with previous versions for example).

You are kidding right? Clearly you don't work in enterprise. We probably spend around £1.5/2 million with them per year (and this is one company out of a group of 8 under 1 big arm) spread over hardware and software. Heck I still have production Xserves in the DC that we need to migrate off. I would fully expect Apple to replace the units no questions asked. In fact they should be bending over backwards not flat out denying there is any kind of issue and telling us to do one.

Sorry is that directed at me? If so get back in your cage

I will try and get some pics today. We are upgrading the phones in the company and the power users have a choice of the 6+, Note 3/4 or something equivalent. I was very tempted by the 6+ (I have a Note 3 personally). We don't care who the manufacturer is but it needs to stand up to being used on the road and manhandled, the sales and developer guys are a bit ruthless.

Really wish the fanboism would stop, its clearly an issue and you can put your fingers in your ears all you want but its a manufacturing fail.
Really should check your past posts

If someone paid for one on a credit card and that happened would you be able to claim the money back on your card if apple fob you off?
Managed to get some better pics before I take it back tonight. From general Googling etc. it seems very unlikely to be replaced, absolutely ridiculous!

The gap is pretty substantial, I can get a finger nail in there. Only a matter of time before dust/moisture gets in there and I have a £700 brick.

Any updates?

How exactly did they all get bent?!

Not surprised they told you to do one as 7 phones damaged sounds suss.

Ditching all your Apple products because of this seems quite petty and a childish overreaction.

Come on mate, you're being a little unreasonable there aren't you.

If Chico's company is picking up an iPhone 6+ for 12 of their employees, they're hardly going to be nuts & bolt sorters working on the factory floor. I'd expect them to have a little respect for company property, but regardless, it's absolutely unacceptable for as many as seven to bend so badly the seal breaks to allow moisture and dust into the screen assembly. It's hardly been 30 days since they've peeled the phones from the box. Ridiculous.

I'd be outraged too but I don't think I'd cut all purchases and leave a business account in arrears. That is rather silly.

Normally the attitude you take when approaching sensitive issues like this makes the world of difference, as well as the clerk and the particular establishment. Chico, you've tried one physical store so aren't there other stores you could visit... or have the bridges been burned now?

The consensus from a lot of tech publications, via Apple chat:

Which I'd interpret as; if it's bent just below the volume buttons then you did this intentionally but if it's bent diagonally then that's a genuine issue and the genius tech has been versed to spot this and will replace if they have matching models in stock.

That last part is probably where a lot of unfair dismissals would arise, which in your case of having seven might be a major issue if you're demanding an immediate replacement.

The above is basically the same for any issue that could be seen as an out of warranty repair... All comes down to who you get... and how big your breasts are (I've seen it happen).

Welp, there we have it folks. A true (i cant see why you'd think hes lying) and simple rejection for multiple bent iPhones.

Fact.

OK, went to the Apple Store last night for my 'genius' appointment.

Basically, the bend is not covered under warranty. It's a chargeable replacement I think at £259 inc vat.

I was told that the official word to all employees is as above, it is not unequivocally not covered. He told me about the 'Visual Mechanical Inspection' and said that the failure condition is actually if it's bent! So no idea what the 'pass' would be.

However he then went on to say as I'm basically the first person to go in there with a bendiPhone (there have been 'several') and not be a ranting **** about it (I used to work in PC World, so I tend to be quite nice to shop assistants :p) he actually proceeded to have a chat with the store manager who eventually authorised an out-of-warranty repair, but with no charge.
He did reinforce the 'out of warranty' status etc. a few times, and mentioned it absolutely won't happen again.

So I got the impression it's complete luck if it gets replaced. As far as Apple are concerned the problem doesn't exist (evil corporation mode engaged!). I personally think that's the public statement to basically avoid a class action lawsuit, sweep it under the rug as best you can but allow replacements as a good will gesture to keep the masses quiet.

Downside is there's still no stock of the 64gb 6+ anywhere, so have to wait for it to arrive! I'm also concerned it's just going to happen again, I can't see how anyone with a 6+ in their pocket is not bending it? I'm going to try to keep the new one in my coat pocket as much as possible, but dunno what I'll do with it on nights out etc.

I'm sure we'll see a new revision that doesn't have the problem (6+S?) but they won't mention it officially to avoid a backlash.

The forums are full of complaints, it is not just me

And for the record I actually have to get permission to put any pics up, I can't just snap it and upload it.

Forums are full of complaints with a distinct lack of photographic evidence!

Why do you need permission to put a photo of a bent phone on a forum ?

Photo's or it didn't happen !!

Something about "bendgate" doesn't add up to me. The coverage of it has pretty much gone now too, with, from what I can see, very few real complaints of a bend.

I think in the majority of cases the phones must have come out of the box bent, due to some sort of manufacturing problem. In the case of Chris1712 above, if he's not put any pressure on his phone then it wouldn't just bend on its own; it must have come like that or been subjected to some sort of other force, perhaps having a weakness to start with.

I know a few people with the 6 Plus and none of them (including my own) show any sign of a bend or warp. I've checked out probably 20 or more others in various shops and none of them appeared to be bent either.

I think that some phones obviously had a weakness, but extensive testing has shown it's nothing particularly bad, and it almost certainly won't bend under normal conditions.

It's pretty strange.

Err because

1) Our company policy expressly states we are not allowed to take any photographic or recordings of company property, locations, data centres, etc unless it is expressly permitted

2) We undertake military / government contracts and have signed all sorts of NDA's which refer to the above, etc

the list goes on. I don't fancy being handed my P45 to please a handful of school children cum fanboi's that have an axe to grind against anything anti Apple thanks.
Don't think you can call anyone a fanboi for doubting your story. Go read your past posts.

I took photos I show them later!!
I can't take photos because of work policy! Which is it?

Our staff man handle the phones!
The phones where not man handled!
I think you full of poo. Loaf of bread and photo or it didn't happen.

Chico, don't feed the trolls mate.

I assure you that the majority here can see you aren't lying and if anything have to work on your communication a little. IT NEEDS TO BE PERFECT DAMN IT!!

Or you can feed the trolls and risk loosing your job just so three chaps can swallow their hats and admit... admit what... that their's a small number of iPhones bending? HAHAHA they must be delusional if they think not.

However he then went on to say as I'm basically the first person to go in there with a bendiPhone

So it sounds like that store hadn't come across any other genuinely bent iPhones. Either Apple employees are being told to lie in hope to dispel the notion that it's very common (which wouldn't be right would it), or there's so few occurrences that Chris' store had only seen one genuine bend to date.

Considering your forum name I would kindly suggest you are the one thats rolls around in their own **** ;)

Not another peep from me, I really can't be bothered to argue. Phones have been ditched and switched to Note 4's, litigation has started anyway :p

Read the rest of the sentence :p
