Hey guys,
Going to be quite a long post, but I need some assistance with a phone I'm desperately trying to repair for a customer, I hope someone may have some inkling as to what else I can try!
So basically the customer made a big mistake by dropping their iPhone in the bath, totally soaked obviously - they did the basics, towel + bag of rice etc. to no avail, that's when they asked me to take a look.
I received the phone, disassembled it and inspected - all the water indicators were red as you'd expect and there were obvious signs of damage/corrosion on various parts of the phone. I broke it down and removed a lot of the steel component shields, carefully cleaning it all over with IPA.
I then replaced the screen (which was totally dead and showed no life) and the battery. At this point the phone booted and showed recovery mode, I plugged into into iTunes on my laptop - "iTunes has detect and iPhone in recovery mode, Update and restore?" - I clicked yes and let it do it's business.
After about 10 minutes I noticed the iTunes window flashing orange, I clicked on it only to find that it was displaying an error message - "Unable to restore iPhone: Error 53".
A quick google on Error 53 doesn't give a whole lot of definite answers, it seems to be an error apple don't recognise either! Bloody useful!
It seemed that the error could be down to the "Touch ID" feature of the phone being damaged, also it could be the ribbon for the touch ID, the screen itself, and the USB port. Overall these parts were replaced with Original Apple Parts:
LCD
Digitizer
Battery
Touch ID
Touch ID Ribbon cable
USB/Headphone assembly
As well as cleaning and checking all contacts and parts.
I'm getting really stuck now as the phone seems to just be stuck in a rebooting/DFU loop, I've tried Reiboot to force it out of recovery mode but it just instantly crashes. I've tried it on my colleagues laptop and get the same error.
Could anyone perhaps help me think of another way to get this phone working again? I'm not great with the world of flashing/jailbreaking etc. on iOS software.
Thanks in advanced!
Jamie
