So I'm having a lot of issues with my iPhone and need to get it fixed. I've opened it up to check if it is due to water damage and the water indicator simply isn't there.

I guess I'm completely screwed?

FYI, this was a replacement iPhone that came from a white slim box as I had a broken screen on my original so paid £79 on apple care to get a replacement.

why would you be screwed?

is it still under warranty? if so, the fact you've opened it may be an issue unless you covered your tracks very well.

what issues are you experiencing?

I'm pretty sure they have absolutelyno way to tell that I've opened it. Just take out two bottom screws, pop off the screen while keeping the connectors attached and take a look.

Yeah it's still under warranty but I'm pretty sure the first thing they do is check the indicator.

Basically terrible network connections. Whether it be WiFi, Bluetooth or cellular. Tried everything to do with software so it must be a hardware issue.

thing is you have nothing to hide so should have nothing to fear. if you hadn't opened it, you wouldn't have known there's no indicator, so why let that bother you now that you know?

I'd take it in anyway and just ask for it to be sorted. explain its a refurb phone and your issues and they'll likely just sort it without any questions.

The issues you are stating aren't really consistent with liquid damage (at least not from what I've seen) so i doubt they'll suspect that. comms issues are typically to do with poor grounding of the antennae.

when i took my 6+ in for replacement they only checked the water damage indicator in the headphone socket. (with a torch) was not set off and they just replaced there and then (Bluetooth packed up) they also done the same on my 2.5 year old ipad (out of warranty) and replaced it for free as it kept crashing. I then sold it and got a new Air 2 as they treated me so well both times. However they did say they only replaced the ipad as i purchased from them directly. If the phone/ipad/device comes from apple they unofficially give a 3-5 year warranty depending on the issue but if it came from Argos or John lewis etc then they will not do that. Worth noting if you plan on buying anything new. This was the Basingstoke store that done it for me.

You should have no issues taking it in. It's not your fault there's no water damage indicator there, and as long as it's not obvious you've opened the phone Apple will probably replace it again.

To update, finally got round to taking my phone to Apple. I accidentally dented the antenna band on one corner but the genius didn't seem to inspect the phone.

After listing my issues, he went and inspected the inside. Either he didn't know what to look at or didn't care there was no water indicator.

Anyway, since one of my issues involved the bluetooth/wifi chip which isn't modular, they just gave me a new phone.
