Thing is will I lose £50+ in resale value if I sell it? I guess I would.

It's otherwise mint condition, but the back clearly ruins it...

Most people put their phones in a case so I am sure someone will bite if you knocked off £30-50. I would just try and sell it as it is and not go through the hassle of doing an insurance claim.

Throw in a case to sweeten the deal.
