iPhone 8 4 to 6 digit pass code change problem

Hi guys,

I watched a pal change his pass code on his device yesterday morning from a 4 to 6 digit passcode. No problem. Today however the new code that's been in use since then is no longer working...

I'm not an Apple user so not much help to him. Thoughts?

It’s really rare but can happen after a software update.

don’t disable the phone - it needs to be erased.

erase from iCloud.com

if it’s already disabled, then restore on iTunes

Ah, a reset is in order then... he's on a 1hr cool down at the moment, waiting for Live Chat. I thought that might be worth a shot?

He tried the old (4) and new codes (6) to no avail. As of yesterday he was on 14.2, we checked before the code change. Would not being connected to wifi at the time affect anything?

Restore on iTunes... he's entered the 'new' code 10 times. I don't think he's plugged into iTunes for a while, is there a chance any of his data will have saved on the cloud for the restore? Or is that wishful thinking - compared to say Android?

It’ll be in iCloud if he was signed in and had the backup option selected.
