Perhaps a worthy app for those who don't have a G-Tech but do own an iPhone or iPod Touch.

A Company called Dynolicious has come out with a 'handy' iPhone app which uses its built in accelerometer to measure 0-60 times etc.

Quick review by Garage 419 vs the G-Tech :

Very American review but gives a good overview, BHP calc is very dependant on vehicle weight you need to get this figure correct to give a reasonable reading.

Few Screen Shots :

The program also allows you to export graphs to view on your pc in more detail.

Clearly the BHP figure should not be taken as gospal, but with the 0-60 runs being accelerometer based the figures produces should be as good as the G-Tech.

GPS based data would be less accurate compared to a accelemeter based system, this is due to the lag and Inacuracies in the gps signals.

If you know how much force you need to accelerate something then you can figure out its speed and hence distance traveled and time easy enough.

which ones bug?

Lots of people seem to be making a mistake with this software and not mounting the iPhone flat!

I had one called Revs, one called GPS Speedo, and another called itracker I think, I can't remember.

They mostly didn't work.

Ah GPS based stuff, you tryed any of these actual 0-60 & 1/4 mile apps?

Since its not based on the gps and provided you have calibrated and mounted the phone correctly then you can't really go wrong as is proven in the video i posted in the OP.

Clearly the bhp calc is open to argument and is a very up in the air figure, but if you enter the weight correctly it seems to come very close.

I'm waiting on some dry weather to test this app fully with a few friends cars.

I bought it, will give it a go in the 5er and report back. I already have a mount and plenty of rural roads to try it out on...

 Let us know how you get on, i gave it a run on sunday down some backroads but with it being -2 wet and icy i got nothing but wheelspin in 1st / 2nd / 3rd, so i'd say not a fair test :p

Does anyone have this AND a G-tech? Would be interesting to see how they compare. I have always found the G-tech to be pretty good as long as you are careful with mounting.

I've been using this for a couple of weeks now with varying results. Two runs on the same day tho both came back with 274hp which is pretty much sopt on for my car currently. I've used the manufacture's figure for the car weight and added my weight to it.

This is what yu get in the way of graphs:

Since getting this result tho, I'm struggling to get any reading over 200hp, so not sure why.

I wish you could edit the plots to display more detail, perhaps this will come in an update.

Sounds like your iPhone sensors have gone out of sync or you have another car profile added or have trans losses added?
