Hi. Has anyone set their iPhone up with Exchange? I have set all the required features up on the exchange server but cannot get it to connect.

It says the account is validated but nothing syncs and if I try and send it just says there was an error.

What server name am I putting in to the settings? The same server name that I use to access Outlook Web Access?

Hope someone can help.

Thank you

thanks but I am my IT admin.

It appears that you can set up IMAP but this is only true if you choose other in the iphone account settings and set up using IMAP. If I do this, it works but the actual Exchange feature doesnt want to work.

Has anyone actually set this up from scratch?

Yep, working here too.
Just had to set it to the webmail address rather than the exchange server and it fired into life....
Make sure your username is domain\username

It's killed my battery though.....

when you say domain\username

Do you mean mail.mydomain.com\username as in what you type to access webmail followed by your password.

or the internal domain name\username

??

Server is the same as that used to access the webinterface from a PC so if you use http://myemailserver.mycorp.com it would be myemailserver.mycorp.com on the iPhone

Username would be internal domain name\username
eg: mydomain\magicboy

Can't help you with the password however ;)

Cool, thats what I thought. Still doesnt work though. It either says it cant verify the account, or, if it can verify the account it takes me to the inbox but nothing happens.

Can I ask, do you use SSL to access your webmail? https instead of http?

Mine works 100% without issue, setup all depends how you see your server over the internet, you got webmail setup with Exchange and can access it?

if so the server would be servername.domain.whatever (.com .co.uk etc)

username is your network mailbox login nothing like domain\username

we see it as mail.mydomain.com which the iphone can access and it works.

in exchange I type [email protected] for email address

then

username: me (not domain\me) but I've tried that as well
password: xxxxxxxxx

Then when I click next it pops up asking for the server which I put in as mail.mydomain.com

It then comes up saying Exchange account verification failed.

:(

Hi guys,

I am having trouble also.

I have webmail and exchange.

Here is what I have and use:

Exchange server xx.xxx.xx.xx
username: dave
password: *******

webmail: smtp1.cali.co.uk
username: **myemail**
password: *******

What the heck do i put in the iphone, nothing seems to work!! I get the authentication OK but I do not receive or send anything.

Any ideas?

hi mate,

in the iphone click on exchange (is it 3G)?

then enter your email address

enter your username, only username, not domain and your password.

You should then be asked to enter your server. This is the same web address as you enter to access Outlook Web Access without the http:// or https:/ though.

If it says its failed you need to try the following. When the failed message appears at the top, click next and choose to save the account anyway.

Then goto settings, mail, choose the account and select to turn SSL off. Come out and go back to mail the normal way and refresh.

See if that works. If it does, it means your SSL is either not working properly or the certificate is not valid for the web address you are using.

Lastly, if you do use SSL to access Outlook Web Access then you need to make sure port 443 is open on the router / firewall

Thanks for the help Tuffers, still not working tho

I have done the outlook web access details and I can access that fine through IE7.

I put in:

Email address,
username,
Password,
Outlook web access address.

Tried SSL on and off.

Still nothing. Bah, computers!!!

ok, no problem.

I think you need to check port 443 is open as my iphone wants to use that even if SSL is off or on. This needs to be mapped to the exchange server.

When you put in your email address and username and password does a little box pop up before you have to enter your server details?

no boxes. My exchange server is in Northampton so it is the router there? It does come up with a box saying security certificate not accepted.

That means you are using SSL so port 443 should be opened on the router / firewall.

Can you navigate to Outlook Web Access using the safari? That will tell you that port 443 is open.

Last thing to try which I forgot to mention. Make sure you set the phone up using 3G and not Wi-Fi. There have been a load of issues with setting up and exchange over Wi-Fi as in, it doesnt.

Just to confirm then. Set Wi-Fi off. Turn on 3G.

Check you can browse to OWA such as https://mail.mywebmail.com and that you can see the outlook style interface after logging in.

Then, click on mail, choose exchange.

email: [email protected]

Username: tuffers (not mydomain\tuffers)
password: ******

Then click next. Accept the box that says cert not accepted. Once you've done that, a server box should appear between your email address and username.

You enter the same address here as you used to browse to Outlook Web Access but without the https, so in our example, mail.mywebmail.com

See how you get on.

If still no luck, then its a certificate issue and you have to configure your iphone to accept the certificate before you set up exchange.

Indeed, make sure you set it up on 3G, I had the same issue.
Couldnt figure it out untill I was playing about on the way to work and BAM, all of a sudden it starts to work.
If your using SSL it will also popup a box and complain about the certificate, just hit yes to accept it and all should be good.
