Expecting new iPhone tomorrow through Orange, though my new contract doesn't start with them until the 15th so I'm basically wondering if the phone uses the internet through whatever home network it's connected to in preference to the 3GS network?

I don't want it wandering off downloading tons of stuff that's gonna cost me a fortune till the 15th!

Many thanks

If you set it up to connect to your wireless network then it will automatically connect to it whenever it's in range. Your iPhone will also prompt you if you’re near a WiFi hotspot/access point but you can switch that off in the settings.

The change between WiFi /3G/GPRS is all seamless providing you have already connected to the WiFi access point before.

That's ok then. I had googled it and some people were saying that even if you're connected to your home network the iphone will still use the mobile network as it's first choice if it has coverage.

Had me a bit concerned.

That's definitely not the case. If you think about it, the mobile providers would much rather have you use your wireless connection than their airtime.

Excellent! It does make sense, but then again, some mobile providers would very much want you to use lots of internet and go over your limit.

Thanks for clearing things up for me guys.

There's a 750MB limit with Orange. From other countries Orange have sold the iphone in they say the average usage is 200MB a month so it should be grand.

Ahh right, I wasn't aware of that thanks. It's a lot of usage though to get anywhere near that sort of figure so it's a good call on their part.
