Iphone Applecare+ question

My friend had asked me a question yesterday and i was also interested in knowing the answer. His girlfriend dropped a reasonably heavy wooden box on her Iphone 15 Pro Max that he bought for her at launch. It has damaged the screen as well as part of the frame. He took out Applecare+ on the device for her and he was wondering if when they claim on it will they replace with a new phone or will it be a refurbished phone? Its the first time he has had to claim and hers was pretty mint. Luckily she had still got her old 11 and is using that currently as he has been working away for a few days and not had time to sort the Applecare out. I know they also do an advanced service but i have no experience of that either.

Direct from Apple or elsewhere? Apple replaced most of the external hardware and batteries.

Direct from Apple. A few years ago when I had an iPhone 7, I went through several hardware replacements due to defects on the refurbs.

In the end they ended up issuing me a new phone.

I currently have a 15 PM and both replacements have had the same hardware defect (detaching at the antenna line).
