As the title really. I used to have an HTC Touch HD and this was easy to use as a modem - same with my old LG Viewty. O2 would sometimes get a bit annoyed about it (write a letter if useage was too high) but otherwise it was fine.

Is it possible to do the same with an iPhone? I'm looking at the new 3GS.

Are o2 going to offer tethering from the 3GS release then? Any details on price and allowance?

yeah, ~£15 per month for 3Gig download, as per Seft below

... but unfortunately it's alsmost exactly the same as the 18 month contract of a mobile dongle...

I'm going to see how things settle once 3.0 is out and jailbreakers report their findings, but suspect I'm going to buy a pas as you go dongle and probably buy daily/weekly access, as it's only on rare occasion that I need access from my laptop.

I thought they would do USB tethering but it looks like Bluetooth and Wifi only. You can still plug the USB in to keep the phone charged but I thought USB would be more reliable. I can USB tether a jailbroken iPhone 3G and it works fine, I tried Wifi tethering using an adhoc network in Windows 7 without much success, even under XP it drops out. I hope Apple's solution is more reliable.

I was really hoping they'd make it about a tenner for the tethering, I do think £15 is a bit of a hit as a bolt on really. What I'd love is if they made a "day pass" for £2 or so with a small download limit, would be perfect for checking my emails etc, the odd time I take a long train journey :)
