Only way to do it is to fake the user agent so the BBC thinks you're using a desktop browser.
You can get an app that does it but your phone needs to be jailbroken.
You could e-mail the BBC and tell them to sort it out This sort of stuff should be stored in a cookie really.
This now happens on my iTouch - BBC is being big brother - presumably because a lot of things on the desktop site don't work iPod / iTouch / iPhone due to Apple's useless safari browser.
