iPhone call volume very quiet?

I have had my 2g iPhone for about 7 months now and I find the volume for phone calls really quiet, to a point where I can't really have a proper conversation in a moderately loud environment.

Will apple sort this out for me if I take it back? I'm not on a contract however and have jailbroken it and use an o2 simplicity card.......could I wack in a o2 payg and upgrade it to 2.0 and then send it back for them to replace? Also if they replace it, will I get a 3g or will they still have 2g's laying around?

a quick check first for a trap that many who had this problem fell in to: have you removed the plastic wrap that comes on the iPhone when you first got it?

You know the safety screen plastic they ship all phones with?.. The one you're always really reluctant to take off because although it looks nice and shiny then, it will look screwed after about 5 hours in your pocket? That one The iPhone has a huge wrap-around one that covers both sides.. So with it on it would be obstructing the ear speaker. I honestly couldn't believe someone wouldn't notice it though?

It's certainly not got the plastic film over it. Anyone know where I stand with warranty?
