Hi,

Could someone be so kind to answer a question I have?

My boss (who is a technophobe) got the Iphone 8Gb(with the 2Mp camera) at the weekend, now today she starts going on about how she downloaded a 7Mp camera from Itunes.

How is this possible? What are these camera apps and just how do they manage to make a 2Mp camera into a 7Mp one?

Someone else who has an Iphone was also going about SLR apps for it?

Just WTF are they talking about?

Hahaha, I thought so.

But she was adamant her 59p app enhanced the camera to 7Mp, and she even had a go at me for inciting she didn't know anything. I was only trying to explain to stop her wasting more money on these kinds of things.

I have a app called Best Camera and tend to use that for editing pics I take with the iPhone and it works really well.

As far as I know those 7MP camera app things only increase the res if anything.

They're all fake. You can't polish a turd (2mp lens). They most probably work by increasing the resolution as said, and most probably applying a preset bunch of sharpening/saturation filters.

It's pathetic tbh, and it's things like this that give the appstore such a poor rep. People will fall for anything that is thrown into that place.

There are some apps that make such images by stitching together multiple photographs.

Like so.

But 7mp it ain't.
I got a mate that believes this kind of stuff and trying to tell him otherwise is generally a futile exercise. :D

plus as we all know, picture quality SOLEY comes down to megapixels

I'd take 2MP with a really good lens over 7MP and a poor lens

lens, lens, lens ppl

it's amazing how people fall for this, how can you covert a 2mp camera to a 7mp camera? It's obviously not possible, yet those apps are amongst the top sellers on the App Store. If you read the reviews, it's clear that it just runs a few filters on the picture to clean it up a bit (at the cost of picture quality in some cases).
Sadly, people will ***** 59p as it doesn't really matter if it doesn't really work - the pricepoint is low enough to get people buying useless apps like this.
