iPhone car holder

It's not cheap but I bought the Brodit Proclip mainly because I wanted a dash mounted holder. It's a two piece holder, one part is a custom fit mounting plate for the dash and the second part is a holder for the device.

For the mouting plate there were 3 location options available for my car, a Ford Galaxy. I chose to mount above the air vents on the centre console.

For the iPhone there were 6 or more holders with combinations of fixed, tilt, passive, active and adjustable. As I keep my iPhone in a protective cover, which changes from month to month :), I bought the adjustable holder.

I also chose a passive holder as I wasn't sure at the time how I was going to charge or connect the iPhone and the holder was almost twice the cost (+£25) with a USB cable attached !!

A week later I upgraded the HU to a Sony MEX-BT3700 which has a USB port on the right which conveniently is just below the holder. And to complete it I imported a 7cm iStubz sync cable in black from Cablejive which is a perfect fit.

It may sound expensive but the Sony HU has BT which via the HFP mutes the music when I receive or make a call, also useful for Sat Nav. The phone also charges when connected to the USB port.

If you would like to see some pics or need more info just ask.

Iam just worried with the suction cap idea incase the suction cap falls off. I thought maybe a holder that clips onto the air vents maybe better.

I bought a generic air vent holder from ebay which cost 3 quid for an old phone, iphone fits in it fine though so might be worth a look?

I also bought a griffin iphone holder which is the exact shape of the iphone back, its far nicer than the cheapo from ebay but cost £20, ordinarily I wouldnt have bought one but needed it there an then so didnt have a choice, having said that it was money well spent as it secures to either the windscreen or the dash board and is rock solid when in place.

Thanks for the advice, I think a holder like this would probably be better as it sticks into the air vents instead...

I reckon a suction cap might not be very strong as I dont want my iPhone flying off the windscreen!

The griffin has shown no signs of coming loose in the 4 months I've been using it. So I wouldn't worry about it to much, this si the one in question - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/re...in-car-mount-for-iphone-iphone-3g-ipod-touch/ (think that link should be ok?)

Ok thanks, I kinda guess it's because my tom tom used to fall off occasionally.

Looks very similar to this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WINDSCREEN-CA...Kits?hash=item4399598cf1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I want to have some way of attatching an itrip to the holder too...

I don't trust the suction cup holders - I used to use one for my n95 and it fell atleast twice, I'd be afraid of the iPhone's screen getting smashed on the centre console or something.

When is Tomtom's holder out?

Belkin Tunebase II is quite good actually, had the chance to have a play with it. seen it for ~£35.

Edit: Seen another version of this for quite a bit less and imo looks better aswell, can't remember the name of it tho :). Will update when I get home tomorrow.

Where does this fit too?

And the itrip fits to the 3.5 jack
