I don't think anyone has posted this in here yet so I'll let you all know.

O2 have recently created a new Simplicity contract for iPhone contract customers who are coming to the end of their contracts. It's £20/month and called "O2 iPhone Simplicity 20" and includes 600 minutes, 1200 texts, unlimited data, free wifi (The Cloud & BT Openzone) and visual voicemail. It's almost identical to the standard Simplicity 20 but you get to keep your iPhone features. They also offer a £30 version with more minutes and texts.

You need to be an iPhone contract customer to be able to get this deal, however if you are already on Simplicity or a Pay as You Go customer with an iPhone you may be able to get this deal, speak to the customer service representative. You also need to be near the end of your contract (1 month or less remaining).

To get this deal dial 2302 from your O2 iPhone and then navigate the menu 2 > 2 > 1 > 2 to get through to a person. You want to ask to change to a different plan and mention "O2 iPhone Simplicity 20 or 30" the person you speak to may not know what you are on about but should be able to find out for you. You'll be put through to customer retentions who will sort everything out for you.

It takes a couple of days for it to go through and you may lose visual voicemail temporarily. You will be billed as normal for the month and then get a refund from the day you switched.

Hope this is useful for some people, I know a lot of people were thinking of switching to O2 Simplicity anyway to tide them over until a new iPhone launch, this deal is better because you effectively pay £15 less each month but gain 700 extra texts and lose nothing.

NOTE: It doesn't matter where you got your iPhone from originally, as long as it on the O2 network you should be able to switch to this plan. My 16GB Black iPhone 3G was obtained through the Carphone Warehouse (the only way I could get it on launch day) but I deal with O2 directly, the Carphone Warehouse does not have any say in the matter as my contract is with O2 (although they are free to try and sell you what they want)..

Thanks for the heads up.

But im going to Orange, the shocking lack of any 3G signal on O2 outside of town centres is annoying as hell.

My contract or my 3GS is up in November (1 month earlier thanks to spending £45 in one month) and I will be going straight to orange.

Is this a rolling 1 month contract, ie one that can be cancelled at any time?

Normal O2 Simplicity is £20 for the same thing (600 mins, 1200 texts, unlimited internet). What do you get for the extra £10? Why do you need the iphone version? can't you just switch to the normal Simplicity?

Yeah, it is the Simplicity SIM Only contract, you won't get a new SIM though, your existing contract SIM will be changed over.

Sorry, I should have made it clear in the original post, there are both £20 and £30 versions. The £20 one is 600 minutes and 1200 texts PLUS unlimited data, free Wifi and visual voicemail.

Thanks for the info, my contracts up in February and was planning on swapping to the £20 simplicity tariff.

However, as mentioned above Vodafone also do a £20 SIM only contract with free internet which is tempting too. Unfortunately the Orange £20 one doesn't include internet (extra £5) or i'd consider that.

This also works for current simplicity users.

Just call them up and ask to be put onto the Iphone version of your tariff.

Massive thread about this on HDUK and the above has been confirmed by many posters.

Only wrks if you are on a month by month Simplicity plan - It wont work if you are in a 12 month Simplicity plan.

Man I wish I could get some of these sweet deals. My last months bill was £1200!!! Granted, i'm with a Danish contact, but they have bugger all in the way of customisable plans & no international call packages (work phone & I work for a brit company). Ive been on this contract for 2 years :(

I'm still on a 3G phone too, if I want to upgrade I have to pay £190 upfront and get my contract reset to the £80 a month standard package, which still excludes international calls.

I love my Iphone, I really do, but damn it costs me (well the company I work for) a ton of cash to have a Danish one!!

Matt.

£80.A.MONTH?!

Yeah standard startup package here is you pay around £190 upfront for the 32gb 3GS, then £80 a month for 6 months. They only do 6 month contracts here. Once youve completed the 6 month contract you go down to a 50 quid a month contract for the same package until you decide to quit. If you upgrade they reset you to the starting package again. They have no insentive plans to keep people on thier books.

This would actually be fine if I only took Danish calls as the plan would pretty much cover my usage, but i'm flying all over the world with my job, so the majority of my calls are not covered, hence the incredible phone bills. I'm sure if I spent around £9k a year on phone bills a UK company would be throwing me new phones each month!!!

Matt.

is orange 3g really that much better?

and out of interest, if i go on this simplicity contract, i'm assuming when the new one comes out (not going to bother with the 3Gs) that i'd have to slide back up to £35 or whatever, they wouldn't let me stay on a £20 contract.... would they?

Its a SIM Only contract - I cant see why there would be any problems with using it in any other phone.

It's probably larger than O2's coverage but if they don't cover your home or work then that fact is meaningless. You should pick the network that offers YOU the best coverage.

You'd have to go back to £35 yeah, but by June 2010 there'll possibly be some competition between the networks which might drop prices.

Or alternatively you could buy the new phone on PAYG and keep the £20 simplicity tariff.

Another alternative is to go for O2 Text and Web PAYG Tariff which gets you the following when you top-up £15:

- Unlimited Texts
- Unlimited Web

In addition you get the £15 to spend on calls. If you've got a few friends on O2 then it worth getting Your O2 Numbers bolt-on; £5 per month out of your phone credit which gets 1000 mins/texts to 10 chosen numbers. This then leaves £10 to be spend on calls to other networks. There is also a Call 50 bolt-on for £7.99 which gets your 50 anyone, anytime minutes each month to UK fixed lines and all UK network mobiles.

Just changed my tariff over to the Iphone one. Should kick in from tomorrow.

Anyone else on Simplicity at the moment - give them a call. :)

just did the same my 3G contract was due to expire on Jan 11th. £20 is a better deal for only 30 day rolling contract.
