I realise that O2 have you by the ***** as far as the IPhone goes so I'm expecting the obvious answer anyway.

But I intend to take out an IPhone contract (after much deliberation over the best method) and I have decided the £30 option would suffice, however I rarely text, 10 - 20 a month max, so would much prefer 125minutes 75texts ran than the vice versa advertised. Would they do this? Or has anyone else been able to do something similar?

Why are you so set on an iPhone?

The iPhone is a great device, but there are far better handests on the market than the iPhone, particularly when you are restricted to you choice of contract.

The 5800 is a brilliant handset and you'll be able to get that (or a plethora of similar/better spec'd phones than the iPhone) on a contract that suits you.

I appreciate eveyone has differents wants/needs/tastes but I don't see what an iPhone can offer you that other handsets cant especially when the contracts they offer on the iPhone do not suit your needs.

And to answer your original question, no, o2 probably won't be able to offer you different contract terms to those that they advertise.

I've looked at other phones, the only other one I like the look of is the HTC Touch HD, but the short answer is.... I prefer the IPhone.

If O2 aren't going to be flexible I have 3 options:

  1. Take the £30 a month contract 75minutes might just be enough
  2. Shell out for PAYG and go the simplicity route
  3. Go for another phone.... the least likely option.

I agree with you, but you are always going to get that in any IPhone thread, same as you get similar banter in an XBox/PS3 thread. Its a public forum, people have voiced their opinions..... BUT I am still getting an IPhone because that is the phone I want.

It looks like I am going to go with the contract option - just need to see decide whether its £30 or £35 per month.

What is insurance usually like on the IPhone?

An iPhone without the Internet isn't a lot of use in my opinion.

I agree and will be using the Internet !

Silly tbh, to shell out £30 a month, for something which you know you will use little of, or you could get for a fraction of the cost (£10) a month (PAYG).

IMO, get a PAYG, top up £10 a month, you'll get to chose 1 of 5 tarrifs every month, also you'll get o2 treats, o2 suprises & o2 rewards, (which sees 10% of your topups returned to you every 3 months). This IMO is a much better deal and cost saving than some of the iPhone contracts.

You'll be on a instant saver. Rather than going down the route for a contract and end up shelling out £800 ish overall.

Trust me, this is my preferred option, I'm fully aware of how much money can be saved with this method, the only problem is the initial outlay.

Go for option 2 mate, the £30 a month contract is pointless, if your going contract get the £35 a month and get some useful mins/txts, although not many (500 each) its a hell of a lot better, surely your brain can figure that ?, if not buy the PAYG one on a credit card and pay it off at the same rate as the rubbish £30 a month one, seriously the £30 a month contract is pointless.

This looks like the way I have to go, purely down to the fact that, for me, its the most financially viable method.

I'm purely recommending other handsets for the fact that he'll be able to get a contract more suited to his needs than those offered with the iPhone.

Limiting yourself to one handset and therefore having to make a sacrifice over the contract seems a bit foolish to me!

Maybe so, but at the end of the day its the IPhone I want, I've looked at other phones and this my preferred !
