I thought it may be good to get a thread going on recommended app's that can be found through the Cydia installer.

Please check this thread before posting.

Myself, I have just jailbroken my 3GS via http://www.jailbreakme.com and have yet to install any app's.

I would be keen to find out app's which help increase functionality and customisation. Especially the lock screen which by comparison to other systems is quite poor.

Can anyone recommend a USB tethering or MiFi app?

I have a 5GB tethering bolt-on with my work SIM but Vodafone tell me that it's incompatible with the iPhone (but I can upgrade to the iPhone-specific bolt-on for three times the price, of course). I'd like to prove them wrong. :)

Wi-Fi Sync is quite good. Allows you to sync your i-devices through WiFi so you don't need to keep plugging everything in. It's available through the Cydia store and costs $9.99 (~£6).

Also, I haven't got this yet, but My3G tricks the phone into thinking the 3G connection is WiFi so stuff like FaceTime can be used via 3G. Costs a quid or two from Cydia.

Oh, and SBSettings is a godsend. You swipe your finger over the area where the time/signal/etc are, and it gives you some toggle switches for certain settings like turning on/off 3G, WiFi, BT, and screen brightness settings. It's pretty damn handy really. It's also free!

and used to absolutely thrape the battery life on my 3G - has this been improved?

As mentioned above SBSettings, great app.

BigBoss (the chap who wrote SBSettings) has also just released SpringFlash which is a flashlight app that's launched via Activator rather than an icon on the Springboard (just like SBSettings is). This means you can configure some other way of turning on the LED on the back of the iPhone 4, I have it set to a short hold of the sleep (power) button.

winterboard for themes and customisation ! is a must
3G unrestrictor, lets you download from app store or any other location that requires you to have full 3G signal but you dont

My iPhone 4 isn't jailbroken but my old 3GS was and i had a decent app called Notifier that displayed a little envelope for email, phone for missed calls etc in the status bar which was handy for having a quick check rather than having to unlock the phone.
