So, my iPhone earphones are basically falling apart. The rubber surrounds have started disintegrating and the jack surround has ripped too. This is through normal use, does anyone know if they are covered by the warranty? My iPod normal earphones never had this problem, quite disappointing.

Anyone else got this?

Not had this problem myself.

Ring Apple, I'm sure they'd offer to replace them if you're within the first year of usage.

Build quality seem to be the same as any other iPod i.e. decent enough. Shame they sound a bit crappy which is why I'm gonna have to buy an adapter to use my earbuds.

I'll miss the remote control function though. :(

This is pretty much how I feel, like the remote/microphone function, dislike the earphones way more than my Sennheiser CX300s.

Having got my reply from Apple, they said to go into my local O2 store and they should replace them under warranty. I'll do this at the weekend, hope they actually give me some! I'll also probably buy myself an adapter for the frankly stupid headphone jack.

Yeah snap I have some cx300's. I didn't like them at first but stuck with them and after a few weeks grew to like them. The adapters are annoying though because:

  • No remote control
  • The ones I've seen look a bit bulky
  • For what they are the prices are ridicuolous

I might hold out for a set of 3rd party iPhone-specific earbuds if Apple allow them.
