iphone email stops working

The wife's iphone 3G stops receiving emai. when you go into the email app and accounts it just keeps checking for emails.

Reboot the iphone and they all come through but after a while it's back to the same

any ideas?

when it decides it is working emails can be sent and received normally

using ntl pop 3 and 02 smtp

Its happened to me sometimes,

Instead of restarting i usually force quit the email app (hold down the home button for 10 seconds while email is on screen) then just go to email again

I think it may be a communication error with the server and it just sits there rather than retry!

When you click home it doesnt quit the email app just kind of minimizes it,hence when opeing the email again its still on 'checking for mail'
