iPhone first set up for a kid advice?

Long story short my daughter is going to be lucky enough to get an iPhone for Christmas, her first phone with a live SIM.

Whilst she's been brought up with technology and we trust her to avoid inappropriate content and be careful with purchases I do want to make sure we offer some element of "family safety" protection on the device until she gets a little older.

It's been years since I used an iPhone and have never set one up for a child before (I say child, she's almost a teenager). Can anyone recommend some steps I should take and any third party app I should install to help avoid inappropriate content, dubious spam/face time contacts, dodgy in app purchases etc?

I'm on Android (for the time being) and other devices in the house are Windows based so have historically used Microsofts surprisingly good family safety settings https://account.microsoft.com/family/about.

There's a couple of apps i've spotted like Net Nanny and Qustodio but thought i'd check in the combined experience of the forum before I go too far down a particular route.

I believe you can go into the Settings > General > Restrictions to customize the parental control options and block things on Safari etc. :)

I can recommend Life 360 as an app it's cross platform and let's you know when your kid arrives at school at a friends at home etc. I use it for my family and it's excellent does cost a subscription though but for peace of mind I negate the cost.

Apple also has good family settings again I have it so my daughter can't by any apps without my approval, you set the child's age so anything not suitable should be blocked. Thats for apps though not sure on browsing.

Thanks all.

Quick follow up - any suggestions on how best to set her account up? It looks like if I have an iTunes account I can set her up as a child account, however it seems that only works if I have an Apple devices as well, I can't see anywhere to set that up in iTunes for Windows app or the iTunes/iCloud web interfaces (or am I missing something).

Thanks again for the advice all, it's appreciated.

I wonder if maybe you'll be able to create an account on the phone, log out, create the childs account and link it through that?
