iPhone headphone jack - loose?

I'm loving my iPhone so far but the only problem I'm having is with the headphone socket. Basically if I'm listening to music with the built-in speaker I have to jam the headphone plug all the way in in order for them to work. Any slight pull on the headphones and you go back to using the speaker. The one iphone I tried in the shop had the same problem.

So the socket seems very loose.

Anyone else experienced this?

I had an issue a while back with it not detecting headphones plugged in. Was happening for about 20 minutes, had me swearing like a trooper, but it magically fixed itself (like all problems with my iphone do) and not had any such problems since.

I got a super cheap one from ebay and it works fine.

The deliberate needlessly narrow housing is just ridiculous. Imagine if Microsoft had done that with the Zune - they'd get slammed for it every time the thing was mentioned.

I knew about the recessed jack beforehand and hoped that I could live with using the supplied stereo headset. But after using it for a day I just had to toss them aside and wanted to go back to my sennheiser cx300.

Of course it didn't fit, so I basically marked how far the apple headset fits in, took a knife to my cx300 and shaved it bit by bit until it was slimmer. Took an hour and hurt my thumbs a bit, but boy was it worth it :)

Otherwise I woulda forked over the cash for an adapter off eBay, but I'm too cheap.... lol

^ I've been looking at those because I have some cx300s going to waste. It's disappointing though because its something else to buy and more importantly carry around.

It just spoils things a bit but bleh, suppose nothing is perfect.
