Stuck this in the hardware section due to (iPhone Discussion)

Just curious as to when sending a iMessage to an iPhone which is turned off would the message display (Delivered) on my phone or just hang around/or send as a text?

Yeah you're right, delivered on the iMessage service is not the same as delivered on text messaging where as it means it's been delivered to the network.

It completely depends on the message settings. If you have 'Send as SMS' off, then the device will not send an SMS when iMessage is unavailable (recipient doesn't have a 3G or WiFi data connection, or the device is off).

If the feature is on, then it will send the message as SMS, if the iMessage fails to deliver. However, in my experience (and others) how long it takes to send as SMS can vary, and can cause confusion if it's considerably delayed.

So my preference is now off, and if the iMessage doesn't deliver the message in the space of about 10 seconds (or however long you're prepared to wait), I hold the text message and tap 'Send as SMS' manually instead.
