iphone info help

Ok ive just had a iphone given me (cracked screen) and plan on getting it fixed but what i want to know is i was told it was a 2g 8gig, but on box it says iphone 8gig, so do i have a first gen or 2g how can i find out, would be very gratefull for your help.

The iPhone 2G is the 'first gen' iPhone, with the silver back and black plastic panel at the bottom.

1st Gen: iPhone '2G' (silver back with black plastic at bottom)
2nd Gen: iPhone 3G (black or white back)
3rd Gen: iPhone 3GS (black or white back)
4th Gen: iPhone 4 (glass like back with black or white underneath)
