iPhone insurance cold calls

Its probably not CPW Rob. After speaking to o2 about it there is a national database of registered phone that companies can pay to view. Any company can get their eyes on this list and they are just pishing for information.

Dodgy company a) calls you and says that you got the £12 cover. You confirm it and they go in for the attack trying to sell you a cheaper deal. If you deny it, they say oh ok, we'll cancel that and hang up, and try the next guy in their list.

Just go here and put your home+mobile numbers in, companies are required by law to remove these numbers from their calling lists before they make calls.

It'll take a month or so, but they'll stop eventually.

It's CPW's partners, I just called up CPW and talked to them about the situation and they have put me through to someone who will remove me from their partner's calling list. All the calls say that they are partners of CPW so it is their fault.

Well neither my brother nor I ticked the boxes saying we want partner calls nor do we want our information passed to partners, and we're still getting the calls.

Anyone can say they're partners of CPW, whether they actually are or not is another matter.

Yeah I just spoke to the guy who said that this has been a problem and that companies are getting the number somehow (they don't know) and acting as if their linked to O2 or CPW. Luckily I am having my old number ported and the guy said that this should resolve the issue (as I never get calls like this on my old phone).

This is a factor of all mobile phones & high street shops unfortunately, I've had the same treatment with my N95 8GB bought from Phones4U.

Would be interested to know if people get these calls if they buy direct from Apple Store.

I am beginning to think that they might be guessing the numbers by getting the numbers of a few iphones and then just trying all the ones similar. I noticed mine and my girlfriends numbers are exactly the same apart from the last 2 digits so it wouldn't be hard for someone to guess other numbers in that range. I am apalled at how these 'insurance' companies have tried to get me to buy their insurance by trying to trick me into giving over my details.

Just as a general rule for myself, anybody who rings me on the mobile who asks to "speak to mr atpbx" gets dumped straight away, as companies who want you genuinely tend and it is only a gereral rule, tend to say "Hello, is that Mr atpbx" as they have have a fair Idea who it is, as they will have my details in front of them for a specific reason as opposed to fishing for something.

Don't know if this will help but whenever I've had unwanted calls about upgrades, etc I just say "It's a work phone" and that shortcuts the whole conversation.

I had the call from them, conversation was something like:

Them: "Hello, how are you finding your phone insurance ? "

Me: "I didn't get any insurance for my Iphone"

Before I could give him an earful he hung up. LOL.

But my numbers ported over now... I hope they have fun ringing that old number !!

These companies are nothing to do with cpw or any other high street store. Numbers are registered almost in cronilogical order all you need to know is one new iPhone number. It's a cowboy trade as old as mobile phone insurance, they obviously just think iPhone customers are easy targets.

Had two phone calls from 08450 020 012 today asking for me. Don't know what they wanted as I said "he isn't here at the moment" when they asked to talk to me.

Probably trying to offer insurance again.

I got a call about 24 hours after activating my iPhone (claiming to be from CPW) and wondered why I hadn't taken insurance out with them. Told them it's too expensive and it's covered on house insurance and that was it.

He also wanted to check everything was ok with the phone, so don't think it was anyone dodgy.

Same, one this morning and AGAIN a few minutes ago.

Since my number porting completed on Friday I have had no cold calls at all since where I was getting 1-2 a day beforehand. This points to what many people supected, a 'brute force' attempt at trying random numbers for new iPhone customers.

Did they say what they wanted?

They said to me "Hello, it's the CPW here, can I speak Justin". I just said no.

They just said it was O2 and asked how the phone was, the asked if I wanted insurance and went on and on about it until I hung up.

2nd time I told them where to go after he asked again.

Hay all, I was given this number after receiving the call; 08700677001, and was told apperently it is a "legit" company because it had a 0870 number...

That was the second call. The first one the guy on the other end started swearing at me after I refused to give him my card detail :D
