Iphone mail dosen't update automatically

My iphone used to notify me of email's by leaving a little red icon on the mail app thumbnail however now it only updates if i open the mail app, ive tried deleting and re adding my gmail account but with no luck. Any idea's?

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Fetch New Data

Make sure this is on for the email account.

Yes I've noticed this as well.

I deal with many iPhones at work and I started seeing this happen since 8.3 I think.

In the past a delete and re add of the account sorts it, but I noticed it again on 8.4. It's a bug, as the phones are out of the box default, nothing changed, just the account added.

Try the above suggestion, but if it's a default setup, it will presumably already be on.

Not sure what ive done but its working again now thank god.
