Iphone mp3 problems

I have an Iphone 3g 16gb and it has developed an annoying fault.

when playing mp3's it cuts out for about a second several times during a track, the annoying thing is if i play the track again the times it cuts out will be different.

any ideas if this is hardware or software controled.

so far i've tried cleaning the headphone socket... just incase and am in the process of a factory reinstall and re-update

anyone else have any experience of this problem?

Right now I'm rolling along the idea that a full restore would be a good idea but see what the others come up with.

backup in progress then restore.... i'll see if it fixes it, i've not been able to find anyone with the same problem.

there's aout 12gb of music on it at the moment so the backup is taking ages!

after a full reset and backup I'm having the same problems. Any ideas?

Are you using the provided headset? It may be worth trying different headphones or no headphones to rule out a fault in the Pause/Skip button on the provided headset

it doesn't matter if I have the stock or a third party head set or if I'm running it through the speakers it still does it

how did you rip these mp3s?

rip some new ones and check there is no issue,

pretty much grasping a straws though

there ripped years ago when i converted all my cd's to mp3... most of them anyway. they all play perfectly on the mac and on another ipod just not on the iphone.

i'm at a complete loss
