Ok, so there's a thread or two over in mobiles complaining about multi-tasking on the iphone, and I'm curious as I'm planning to pick one up. Is it that bad? That big a deal? Just how limiting is it? How easy is it to switch back and forth between things? Any honest opinions appreciated.

The 3gs as unknowndomain has said is indeed very quick at switching apps. It does however become annoying when you can't for example listen to something on last.fm and then leave that running in the background so that you can then browse the net or play a game whilst still listening to last.fm.

You have to listen to last.fm or spotify and nothing else.

But you could browse the web or play games if you were just listening to music using the iphone's own music player, yeah?

The only time it's a slight issue for me is when I'm using Safari or some app and I receive a text. Curiousity gets the better of me and I just *have* to read and reply.

99% of the time it's not an issue at all.

So you have to close Safari, read the text and re-open Safari? Does it remember where you were?

I find it extremely annoying trying to multi-task, it's as if the iphone closes down the app when you switch to something else and when you switch back it has to reload it.

It's not like that, it's exactly that, from what I've read of how it works.

Apps have to be written so that they can resume within a given timeframe to retain the illusion of multi-tasking.
