iPhone refuses to update

So I have a strange problem, I've had my iPhone for over a yea rnow but never updated it, simply because I can't. Everytime I go to update it it comes up with an error at the end saying it failed and that it needs to be restored, which coincidentally doesn't work either because it wants to update it while restoring. I've had three different Windows installations on two different hard drives and each have done the same thing. I have to resort to plugging it into my laptop to restore it.

Any ideas? It seems really peculiar that it just won't work on my PC at all, I've tried just now as I installed a new SSD last week with a fresh install of Windows but it's the same story as before. :confused:

Try backing up, downloading the latest ISPW manually, holding shift and clicking restore, selecting the ISPW, then restoring from the backup. Worth a try really, and at least you have the required ISPW after this.

I had a similar problem with my gf iphone updating from 4.3.3 to IOS5. However, it was fine when i updated it to 5.1

If your phone was new why didn't you just take it back to apple at some point over the past year?

Does your USB port provide enough power - my iPod Touch only updates on the USB ports at the backm on the motherboard, not the ones on the front, connected via thin cables?
