In a fit of capability I've managed to launch my phone out of my pocket and onto my driveway and I've smashed the screen.

Where am I best going to get it fixed? There's a walk in place near where I work which can do it in 15 minutes for £60, and I've seen places online that will do it by post for £40, though obviously that means letting it out of my sight.

Any ideas?

Cheers homies.

Yeah, I had a glance at the kits, but think it may be a last resort if paying to fix it is looking like silly money.

uh hmmm ;)

I run a repair business in torbay, done over 300 now. Trust me if you want mate.

Did something similar a few weeks ago, the phone insurance company wanted £100 to fix it ( what is the point of insurance I ask myself ).

I got my screen replaced by a guy down the market for £40, was very happy with it. I did buy a kit to fix it myself, but really glad I didn't try.

Paid £65 in a place off the high street and had it fixed... I realise that's over the odds, but I wanted it done quick.

The home button is a bit dodgy, looks like it split in two in the crunch as well. Still, I can learn to live with that a whole lot more easily than with a knackered screen.

Well, lesson learned, I guess.

Do you not have any insurance that would cover accidental damage to the phone?

Insurance company's use repair company's anyway, he wont get a new phone and will be without it up to 2 weeks.

Sounds like he had a crappy repair done on it if the home button isnt working properly, and £65 :eek:
wish i could get away with charging that!

Yeah, might go back and complain - have got 90 days warranty. The screen seems to be sitting higher above the metal rim, as well, which I'm not keen on.

I can see that the home button is cracked, which i guess happened in the original fall. The guy who did the screen would want £45 to do the home button, which seems a bit extreme, even having just paid £65 for the screen. Is the home button easy to replace?

Put it this way, I charge £25 for a home button and £35 screens, if i was in his shoes i wouldn't charge full price for a new home button to a returning customer.

Changing the home button requires removing the screen again, but if its not even stuck down correctly and from the sounds of it, it isnt! Then its a 15 min job!

This sounds like a complete cowboy job to me. :(

It's a bit disappointing, yeah... It's one of the first people you get when you search for when you Google for screen repair, and he's working out of an office in quite a flash part of Manchester, so I'd have hoped that the high price was indicative of high quality work.

Put it this way, Apple offered me £80 to open it up and fix it, and I don't doubt that they'd have replaced the button as well for that price, so £65 seems a bit shoddy for poorly done work and not even mentioning that the button was broken.

Argh. Home button getting really dodgy. Gonna go back on fri and have a moan. Quite glad I paid on my credit card, as I'll be getting the payment cancelled if he doesn't fix it. I'll name and shame if it doesn't get sorted out.

Was it just a little high street mobile repair shop?

Not really... Appearances are clearly deceptive. Like I said - the business is one of the first hits on Google and he's operating out of a nice office on a very flash street in Manchester, and the prices aren't at all high street grade. However, it seems to be just one guy who's playing it big but doing a rubbish job.

I'll see what he says on Friday.

Yes, went back yesterday and complained. He's refitted the screen and replaced the home button. So far, so good. Still not sure I'd recommend him given it took two tries and cost a fair whack, but at least the job's done now.
