iPhone SE 2020

The Mrs phone arrived earlier all working fine.

Waiting for a case and screen protector to arrive now but it's not like she's going out any time soon so how much damage could she do? :p

FYI, the screen is the same as the iphone8 apparently, you wanna get one on order now ;)

Thanks, good tip.

She really wanted the brown leather case but they are only doing blue, black and red at the moment. However, I've found an iPhone 8 version on eBay so I've ordered that.

I’m really liking this phone now, camera seems excellent for the money, only using it indoors at the moment so should get better results when we’re allowed out again.

The weight of this phone is good too, feels 50% lighter than my iPhone 11 Pro and XR, you really notice the difference.

Is that an actual iPhone released this year?

It looks incredibly dated compared to even my year-old phone that was likely cheaper.

It's an iPhone 11 in an iPhone 8 shell (and screen), for £400.

People can argue why not put better screen or new design, but because they use existing designs and screen, they are able to do it for £400. No new tooling, no new R&D. You can't argue with its performance for a £400 phone.

Not to mention repairability benefits for having known parts and techniques.

I'm usually one to defend Apple, i.e. their laptops should only be compared to the like of the Razer Blade rather than on pure specs as the build and form are important.

But in this case, it's £420 for a phone that while is technically faster than mine (£270 a year ago) it has a smaller, lower-quality screen, much smaller battery, much worse camera, and so on.

It's basically switched positions where the core specs perform better all the peripherals are way worse.

Other companies are able to produce much better-specced phones for the same price without reusing casings, screens etc.

Other companies are not Apple. Other companies actually need to do something different to get noticed in this crowded market place, this price segment.

What you have here is a £400 iPhone, a new £400 iPhone. A phone that will pretty much guarantee 4 years+ of software updates, the battery may be shot by then with its tiny 1850mha but people don't think about that.

£400 iPhone. That has weight.

It's like Ferrari releasing a £40,000 car with a £100,000 car engine inside, just in a F40 shell and not a Superfast shell.

Yes please.

Sort of misses two points though - it offers a much cheaper product than is normally available from Apple if you want an Apple product. And also Apple do tend to optimise well for the hardware they use. Even with cameras.
