iPhone stopped working - dead?

a friend just emailed me

I was on the phone and it was working fine....hung up....went away from my desk....came back...NOTHING! blank screen and it wont switch back on!!!!

How would she fix this? restore from iTunes?

hold power and the middle button and see if a reset will do it.

Is this with the cable plugged into the pc first?

Just plug it in to start with, see if it springs into life (it turns on when it detects usb).

Try plugging it in first as Tute says.

In my experience if they go dead the only way to wake them up is to reset it (by holding power + home for 30 seconds)

You don't need to connect any cables to do this. Just do it in your hands.

Like I said above just do a reset no cables needed as EVH has made very clear.

you can do this prior to plugging it in anywhere.

Mine died once just like this after getting off the phone to the RAC as I had broken down. (spring snapped) luckily a reset managed to get it back up and running again.
