iPhone turned its self off, and wouldnt turn back on?

This afternoon, I noticed my iPhone had turned off, even though it had near enough full charge.

I tried pressing the power button, but nothing.

After looking on the Apple forums, it said to hold the power button & home button for 10-15 seconds. To which it turned back on.

But why did it turn its self off? is this a common problem?

When it was turned off, my phone even vibrated. To which now ive turned it back on can see I recieved a message.

It crashed, it didn't turn off. Holding the buttons reset it.

Ok, aslong as its nothing serious im happy with that.

Don't think it is serious. Keep an eye on it, if it does it again then there might be something up.

I think it actually did not turn its self of as much as it locked up whilst it was in sleep because if it turned its self off it would have been a case of pressing home/sleep to wake it up and you would not have had a problem.

Mine and my other half's jailbroken iphones keep doing this every few weeks. I've got it down to one of the extra apps making use of mobile substrate.
