Dear All,

I write today because I'm in a bit of a sticky situation.

One of our members is unable to send emails from their hotmail account to anyone using our in-house email.
They are however able to send emails from other devices from their hotmail such as their laptop.
I have attempted to reset the ip on the iPhone and this has worked to a certain extent: the phone works for a very short period of time and then reverts back to recieving the error message:

Reporting-MTA: dns;blu0-omc1-s15.blu0.hotmail.com
Received-From-MTA: dns;BLU0-SMTP320
Arrival-Date: Mon, 21 Nov 2011 09:30:57 -0800

Final-Recipient: rfc822;[email protected]
Action: failed
Status: 5.5.0
Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550-blu0-omc1-s15.blu0.hotmail.com [65.55.116.26] is currently not permitted to
550-relay through this server. Perhaps you have not logged into the pop/imap
550-server in the last 30 minutes or do not have SMTP Authentication turned on
550 in your email client.

Let me know if you have any ideas, the things I've come up with at the moment which are possible are:
1. Trying to give the iphone a new ip address
2. Telling our exchange server to accept email from this address.

Thanks,

Raf

Its not an issue with your exchange, email isn't even being sent to your exchange server. Has the user changed there password recently? If so remove the account from the iPhone and re add / ensure the iphone has the latest version of IOS.

As above hotmail is delaying relay, I'd double check the settings on the iPhone and also check the user doesnt have any kind of auto forwarding from work->to hotmail. We have this occasionally when we auto forward work emails to personal emails.

I was being way way way too over-the-top in trying to troubleshoot this.

As suggested in the thread a simple: delete and re-add the email account on the phone as well as an update fixed the problem. It was authentication problem due to them traveling abroad.

Thanks for all the help.
