iPhone warranty question

i am debating whether to buy a 3g. i have found one on a forum, and it has 10 months warranty left, but i am just wondering if the warranty remains with the phone or with the person who bought it originally and them only?

basically, does the 12month warranty last no matter who owns the phone, or is it just for the person who bought the phone originall.

as im aware it goes with phone....i got a second hand one once for kids 3 months old it was they replaced it no problem, i had orignal receipt from purchaser so it was all ok
