I bought a iPhone 5 on launch last year, and I had a problem with one of the buttons so I had it replaced at the Genius Bar today. When I checked the warranty on my old handset it had around 10 days left, on my new one it says October 2014.

Is this a mistake? Do you get a fresh years warranty with a replacement iPhone? I'm really confused as I was going to buy AppleCare within a few days.

Mine was swapped out on Saturday and they transferred the old one's warranty to the replacement. My "new" phone has 12 days worth of warranty left.

The same happened with my iPad 3. If yours does say October 2014, then you're very lucky :)
