iPhone Won't Sync

Latest Itunes running on XP. Iphone 3GS connected using a data cable. Itunes recognises the iPhone when it's plugged in, but won't sync any of the podcasts I've downloaded to it. It shows up under Devices in Itunes. The iPhone does not currently have a SIM in it, if that makes any difference. Any ideas? First time I've tried so send anything to it - 3GS was recently bought from a well-known auction site.

Everything checked correctly on the podcast tabs once you have clicked your phone?

only thing i can think of.

Oh for shame. Have never used Itunes before, and that indeed was the issue. Surprisingly unintuitive.
