I have just upgraded from an iphone 5 to an xr today and noticed it just unlocked by pressing the side button and hasn't asked me for a passcode ever? my only phone would ask for one every time am i missing something? i have passcode enabled in settings

Any fingerprint or facial recognition set up?

lmao omg it was the facial recognition, it asked me to set that up when i first turned the phone on but didn't think it was set up. mind blown how quickly that works, just tried to unlock it without looking at the screen and it won't unlock. i guess i am late to the party coming from an iphone 5 never expected face id to work instantly like that, that's pretty mind blowing lol

You can turn off the retina focus so it unlocks still, even if you're not directly looking at the screen, if you wish...

If you go into Settings -> Face ID & Passocde -> switch off 'Require Attention for Face ID' - I personally do this as find times I want it unlocked without staring dead at my phone lol.
