iPhone12 iOS16.0.2 and FaceID problem

Updated to IOS16 on launch day and everything has been great. updated to 16.0.2 a few days ago.

My faceID has just died this morning. I'd used it on and off for about 2 hours today before it decided it's not working. Under General>About>FaceId is states there is an issue.

After googling if you try and take a "portrait" photo with the facing camera if the "natural light" icon doesn't glow yellow then it's unlikely FaceID will work. When I try the icon goes yellow for about a second then goes off.

I'm guessing this is a software glitch and i'll just have to be patient? Any other ideas?

My wife had her Face ID stop working on her iPhone 13 Pro Max last year. I did a backup and factory reset but it still didn’t work so figured it was a hardware issue.

Turns out that the TrueDepth camera was indeed faulty and they replaced it.

They also messed up the earpiece speaker in the process so had to take it back and that time they replaced the entire phone.

I would do a backup and factory it. If it still doesn’t work then you know the phone needs to go in for repair.
