Grrr, my bloody iPhone has been stolen. I was at the curling club tonight which is a pretty safe place at the best of times, left my phone in my trouser pocket in my bag in the changing room. I was using it when I came into the place so it must have been spotted. The changing room is in full view of the rink but of course I wasn't paying attention to it while I was playing. You just cant trust anybody these days. Anyone know if Household all risks covers things like mobiles?

First thing I would do is cancel your Sim card. Whether your house hold insurance covers your phone depends on your policy. Some have personal possession allowances. Check the small print.

Didn't have mobileme :(
BUT I reckon the phone was switched off as it went straight to answerphone. This is good as I have an unlock passcode when it is turned on. I also got the IMEI number off the box so the phone itself has been deactivated. Got the magic crime number off the police and the claim on the household insurance went remarkably smoothly :)
Still a collossal PITA! :(

Is iLocalis still available? I would have thought that it's an all round cheaper solution than mobileme. Provided you're phone is capable of running it.

This about the only thing MobileMe is good for, it's extremely overpriced for everything else, Google offer it all for free (apart from an 'iDisk', which I don't even use anyway).

I'm starting to wonder if I should cancel my MobileMe account.

I love the push email, but to be honest I only really keep essential documents on the iDisk and that's negated by having TBs of local storage.

Same here, I doubt I will renew mine unless they make it about £10 a year which it's only just worth. It's a shame the iDisk is so damn slow to upload to. Gmail can now Push to the iPhone and you can sync Address Book and iCal to Google so it's the same but free!

Yup. iCal, contacts and email can be pushed via Google Sync.

Dropbox (online storage) is free for 2GB, so unless you use more it's actually a better deal (see: free)

Thanks EVH.
Does it work with Outlook? Or do I have to use the Google Calendar feature for my appointments and contacts etc?

Just phone up your network provider and report it stolen. The IMEI will be blocked and placed on a list making the iphone useless for re-sale or use.

Did you have insurance?

Yes. Once it's configured it will sync to Outlook.

Many thanks EVH. I may have to give this some thought!

So let me get this straight, Google is offering the same exact service as MobileMe, the only difference being there isnt a picture of an Apple being bitten into?
Or is there something else that MobileMe offers that is not available with Google?

You don't get 20GB of iDisk with Google. One alternative is 2GB free with Dropbox etc
