iphoto help

Hi, I got a macbook pro the other day and i'm loving it such a step up from my old xp machine!
I transferred all of my photos into the photos folder on my mac, opened iphoto and imported them.
I then saw a load of old photos i didn't need or needed moving to different locations within my photos.
I've organised it all and deleted a load of duplicates and unwanted photos, and removed them from the trash bin.

The problem comes now I open iphoto all the old stuff is still in there! Is there anyway to sync iphoto with my photos?

I think I've worked this out! iphoto makes duplicate copies when you import the photos, so I have deleted my old iphoto library and am currently re-importing the photos back into iphoto, then I can delete the originals
