Ok so iphoto doesnt handle raw image files...does anyone know of any decent mac software that does? :) and will it let me import from the cam? It seems that iphoto takes over import of photos completely and doesnt even allow me to copy them to the drive, let alone open them...

help

OS X handles RAW on it's own. Suprised iPhoto doesn't

What camera do you have, maybe it's not supported fully yet.

Try going to Application/Image Capture and using that.. it's much better than iPhoto for importing IMO.

Yes, but OS X only supports RAW profile's from certain cameras (I think the Canon and Nikon RAW formats primarily)...

Many people have cameras that still aren't supported.. could be a camera incompatibility?

Did you try Image Capture Balddog??

Depends what you're looking to spend, Balddog - personally I use Lightroom, but have used Aperture and Photoshop CS2 to handle RAW files.

As far as cataloguing goes, I'd stick to Aperture or Lightroom as they have the library functionality that Photoshop doesn't

CS2/3 comes with Bridge for the cataloguing and metadata editing ;)

Was just wondering about this myself.

With iPhoto '08 being shipped with some good editing tools I was wondering if it was worth paying for Lightroom or Aperture. iPhoto can organise everything and if I can do basic colour correction with it I can still use Photoshop for serious editing.

Any views?

I'd say you've answered your own question really..

I use Photoshop to edit, and rely on bridge to organise.. but nothing stopping you using iPhoto. Are you going to get the new iLife, or will you be buying a new Mac?

If it's the latter then you're better off selling Aperture, but if you're only getting iLife then I'd say save your £79 and use Aperture.

Cheers for that. Will be getting a new mac. Currently using Lightroom with a PC. I can get LR with an HE discount which makes it pretty good value but I don't really see the point if iPhoto '08 is as good as they are boasting.

Ahh right, nice :)

Suppose you can always try iPhoto 08 for a few weeks, then if you don't like it just get Aperture like I said above really.

You going for a new iMac then is it?
