Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and to the IPpod touch, so I'll apologise if I sound dim. I just wanted to ask if anyone else had experienced their ipod reading as a camera/scanner when plugging it into a usb port on their computer ? Is it meant to read as that ? if not, how did you resolve it ?

many thanks

Jackie

Have you installed iTunes or the drivers that come with it?

Fixes on the interwebs vary from installing the latest version of iTunes or trying the rear USB ports on your PC.

Hi guys,

thanks for your replies. My computer wouldn't download itunes for some reason, so I managed to download it on the laptop and sync the ipon up. I'm not too bothered about using itunes as such, I want to be able to download youtube videos etc on to it. Will I not be able to do this on my own computer (without the itunes) in the future, as I plugged in the ipod and it is still showing as a camera/scanner. Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions, I'm baffled,

many thanks for your help

Jackie

Hi there,

ok, thanks. Does it matter that the ipod shows up as a camera/scanner when it's plugged in to the pc ? what's also stragne is that when it's plugged into the lap top, it doesn't pick it up at all ??

thanks

Jackie

You really need* iTunes to do anything. With regards to YouTube videos you can access them direct from the iPod Touch via WiFi and the YouTube.app

I take it you are also using Windows rather than OS X? If so then download iTunes on the laptop and copy it over to the Desktop and install from there if it still won't download.

* To appease the hardcore geeks: You can use third party software and hacks to replace iTunes if you want. However unlike some users on here I have no issues with iTunes and it does make working with your Apple device easy.
