iPod 4th gen screen cracked

Erm, well lets just say good luck with that!

The 4th gen digitizer screen and LCD are all one piece, and they are extremely difficult to separate.

I had one to repair a while back and tried to remove the digitizer, but it shattered the LCD with only a very small amount of pressure applied. I ended up buying the combined unit, which was pretty easy to install.

You might be lucky and be able to cut all the way around with a very sharp blade, but if you apply any pressure at all to the LCD you will break it.
 
The 4th Gens are a lot harder to take apart than the earlier ones. I believe you have to take out the logic board as well as the digitizer and LCD are all one unit whereas a 2nd Gen for example the glass will pop straight out with a bit of pressure and a good quality opening tool.
As you can see from that it's a pain in the arse to take apart.
