I done abit of work today for one of my customers, he has recently had his PC wiped by someone else, he wants all his music on on his ipod transferred to his ITunes on his PC. me being an Itunes rookie had a quick go, managed to get it to sync with his device, so on his PC he can see his Ipod device and his music, and it says its "syncd" but as soon as he disconnects his ipod he can no longer see his music. It also took around 5-10 seconds to sync which means it is very unlikely that all them tunes downloaded to the PC.

How can I achieve this?

Any help greatly appricated :)

If you plugged his iPod into a PC and answered 'yes' to the first message that popped up then what you may have done is just to erase everything on the iPod.

I'm a bit confused as to what you're seeing. When the iPod is disconnected, is there still music on it? When you've got iTunes running without the iPod connected, is there music in the library?

When you fist plug an iPod into an iTunes installation it will give you the option to copy bought music off, you should choose yes to this and it will transfer all your purchases to the computer. It will also ask whether you want to sync your iPod with that computer. If you say yes to that, it will erase the iPod and sync whatever's in the iTunes library back out to the iPod.

You're best off using a third party utility to do this, I don't know of any off hand but it's been mentioned in here a few times so it's worth searching.

It didnt wipe his ipod as he could clearly see all his music as soon as he plugged in his device. It would show up on the left hand menu under devices, then music, so its still there.

So it would be best to do this through a 3rd party app? surely Itunes should have this feature? its seems very basic.

iTunes did have this feature up to I think version four.

The reason it's not in there anymore is that, like it or not, Apple are in the music industry's pocket. They can't really afford to do things the music industry don't want them to do because the iTunes store is a huge revenue source for Apple.

However, this doesn't stop third parties fixing it for you quite easily.

My app of choice for getting stuff off iPods is Music Rescue.

I've never used it on the PC but it's fantastic on the Mac.

Plug in your iPod, tell iTunes to leave it alone, then open Music Rescue and hit Quick Recover is easiest. You can manually pick what you want off of it but for this situation a Quick Recover will just get everything off and put it into iTunes for you.

Without paying for Music Rescue, every fifty songs it'll ask if you want to buy it. Just say no and it'll carry on. If you're only doing this once, just grab a cup of tea or something and bash Enter every fifty songs, otherwise it's a tenner to unlock it fully.

tried the app above, it looked as if it was going to work, had destination folders everything but as soon as you clicked the ok button it would disconnect itself from the ipod. I tried it with and without itunes running.

Anymore ideas or apps please??? :)
