iPod backup taking ages

I've got a 1st gen Touch which I haven't had any problems with but I've noticed recently that when I sync my ipod and let the backup run it takes bloody ages.
I started it this morning and it was probably maybe a third of the way through after 4 hours, WTF.
Anyone else having this??

They've really made a pig's ear of the 1st Gen Touch in recent updates. Mine would take about 45 minutes to validate before even syncing. Their support is god-awful as well
