Eh up people,

I have one of the more old school Ipods, with a wheel and 4 buttons above that, rather than integrated into the wheel, and the battery is now knackered

Has anyone had any experience of buying one of the replacmenet ones off t'internet and fitting it yourself - is it as easy as they'd have you believe, and are the batteries decent???

Cheers

I'm also interested. I have the same iPod (the best one - with the red backlight on the buttons) but the battery lasts about 3 or 4 hours

My old ipod does the same. I think that's possibly how long you can listen to your music for. I went into an apple/ipod shop and was told that the older ones have shocking battery life :(

we sell the battery packs at work and they are much better then the ones that come with the ipod (or so im told by returning customers and a workmate who has the same ipod u mention)

cant say where i work as its a competitor

hope that helps?

I have the same iPod as mentioned in the OP. I succesfully changed the battery. I bought it off ebay and it was fairly cheap, around £8 i think.

Getting the back off is a bit tricky, make sure you get a battery with tools included, they help. But you might need something more sturdy, i used one of the things on my swiss army knife.

Here are instruction and a video of how to do it.

Its well worth it and if you are careful you will be fine.

Had a play at this today, was using a couple of my knives and a few collar bones! Should be ok when changing my HDD.

Just as an update - I bought one off ebay for £9, came with the tools, and watched the above tutorial video - managed to do it in 5 mins, and it works brilliantly - do it!

Cheers
