Ipod classic broke? :(

Alright, so here's my problem. My Ipod Classic 160gb 6G randomly died out, or sort of. I press ANY button on the wheel, the middle one, play, forward etc. None work, yet I can still scroll using the wheel, but I cannot play, pause, skip, select etc. I haven't updated the firmware, given it a nasty knock or anything, it just died on me randomly in bed. I can't even use the Middle button + Play thing, to reset my Ipod. I'm going to try and restore it through iTunes, however I do not have my media collection saved, and I converted the ID3 tags in iTunes. Is there a program or plug-in for anything that can backup my music without me having to put ALL 4000+ ID3 tags again?

Edit: I'm on software version 1.1.2 if that matters, and I have no idea how to revert back to old firmware's

Thanks for that, I've got my songs now and added them to my library for later :)
However, I can't seem to restore my Ipod to factory settings -.-
I keep on getting an error that the Ipod has files that are in use by other applications :(
